Please prepare for landing!

ireland day 1 001We left from on June 1st from the Buffalo Airport. Destination: County Clare, Ireland.

It was a long wait at the airport but the kids entertained themselves with a new card game. The one hour flight to JFK Airport on Jet Blue was top notch according to the kids. A whole can of soda to themselves and free cartoons on the in-seat video monitor. Only 90 minutes at JFK before boarding a flight to Shannon, Ireland. Fun stopped. Plane was delayed while waiting in the take-off line. Video players didn't work for the first hour. It is hard to sleep on a plane at 9 pm. Even harder to wake up and start the day a mere 3 hours later when we landed in Ireland….6am local time. One in the morning Eastern Standard Time.

<We spent our first afternoon at the Connemara Bog Festival. Ireland decided to give us a traditional welcome…a cool mist! We met up with a group for a guided nature hike. The group was led by an herbalist/ecologist. Sinead taught all of us about some of Ireland's native flora. We sloshed through the bog. Picked different kinds of heather, lichen and many plants I can't remember. Sinead's brother joined the group and played the accordion for us at several places along the hike!A little hiking music, please

We joined a guided hike in Connemara National Park with an herbal/ecologist.

<A little cold and wet but none the worse for wear, we headed to the Bard's Den Pub in Letterfrack. It was just up the road from the hike and was hosting a traditional music session and dancing. Great music, delicious food and a little dancing topped off a terrific first day. Bedtime is earlier than sunset!
